Volcan Baru

Volcano Baru 

Is the highest elevation in Panama and is the highest volcano in the south of Central America, with a height of 3475 meters. They share three districts: Boqueron, Boquete and Bugaba.

According to scientific studies its last eruption occurred approximately between 400 and 550 years ago. It is estimated that its height was greater, with the top of perpetual snow cover. The most recent eruption was lateral, opening a crater in the southwest part-west, melting the snow on top and taking place the collapse of it, causing a huge avalanche of mud and lava.

*   Round-trip time: 10-12 hours. 
*   Elevation Gain: 1,578 m. (5,177 ft.) 
*   Max Height: 3,478 m (11,410 ft.) 
*   Attractions: cloud Forest, view, plants and animals. 
*   Activities: hiking, camping, bird watching. 
*   Difficulty: HARD. 
 
Activity requires good physical condition. It applies to roads that could be dangerous in some parts and should be traveled with care. Routes could pass for areas in poor condition or where there is no marked trail, or when the terrain is very steep and requires some skill to negotiate .
