Plaza de Francia 
The Plaza de France was built between 1921 and 1922 under President Belisario Porras in what until then was the parade ground of the barracks of Chiriqui to commemorate the French company Canal lead by Ferdinand de Lesseps and in honor of the French Republic . The manager of this project was the architect Leonardo Villanueva Meyer.

An obelisk 18 meters high is at the center of this square in the tip of the figure of the Gallic rooster, symbol of France is. Circling the obelisk are the busts of Ferdinand de Lesseps, Armand Reclus, Lucien Bonaparte Wyse, Leon Boyer and Pedro J. Sosa. We can also find a statue in front of the obelisk Pablo Arosemena, 5th President of the Republic of Panama. Among the buildings surrounding the square are the National Institute of Culture, former Palace of Justice of the Republic of Panama, Anita Villalaz Theatre, the building of the French Embassy and a private mansion belonging to the family Navarro-Quelquejeu.
